Summer Films Help Promote Greek Fashion TrendChildren and Teens Follow Clothes of Mamma Mia! and Sisterhood 2
Two of this season's hottest movies, Mamma Mia! and Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2, promote the current Grecian fashion trend.
Two of this summer’s highly anticipated films, Mamma Mia! and The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2, both currently in theaters, have one main thing in common: the location of Greece. Mamma Mia!, the musical story of a bride searchinig for her real father, was filmed in various Greece locations; some scenes of Sisterhood take place in Oia, Santorini. Unlike the first Sisterhood, in which only Alexis Bledel’s character Lena traveled to Santorini, all four actresses wind up in Greece for the sequel. Runway Trend: Grecian Gowns, Sandals, JewelryWhat does this have to do with fashion? Well, for starters, Grecian-themed clothes have been popular all summer and are still hot this coming fall. Long dresses, gladiator sandals and gold jewelry continue to pop up on runways and in fashion magazines. Children and teens, however, can look towards these two movies for their Greece inspiration. While void of such obvious looks as Grecian dresses, both films offer clothes that kids and teens can copy in their own wardrobes. Sisterhood Clothes: Greek Vacation In the first Sisterhood, Lena slowly trades in her button-down shirts and pants for spaghetti-strapped sundresses and tank tops. In the second film, the four characters show their individual styles but with a beachy edge. For girlie types, such as Lena, this means colorful sundresses or long tunics over shorts. The others round out the color spectrum – in one still photograph, Carmen (America Ferrera) is shown in an orange cover-up, Tibby (Amber Tamblyn) wears a Juicy-Couture look-alike yellow cover-up and athletic Bridget (Blake Lively) is dressed in a lime green tank top and bright blue shorts. These bright colors are definitely a summer trend, and can continue to be worn into fall, paired with a darker palette as the weather grows a bit cooler and the days grow shorter. Think a bright tunic with black or neutral pants; a colorful skirt over dark tights or cheerful accessories with otherwise neutral prints. Mammia Mia! Fashion: Dresses Are KeyThe clothes in Mamma Mia! are a bit more musical-inspired, but one thing is clcar: it’s dresses, dresses, dresses. This trend isn’t disappearing anytime soon, and it’s one of the easiest looks to pull off at any age. Kids and teens should look for dresses in pretty colors with details such as eyelet or embroidery to look of-the-moment. Or they can choose plainer dresses and enliven them with interesting accessories. Shop Summer TrendsFor the best luck in finding clothes that look as though they’re meant for a Greek vacation, shop while there are still summer sales. Once fall clothes officially take over department stores, it’ll be difficult to find pieces of linen, cotton and bright colors admist all the wool and layers.
